The armed robot “Smelchak” (Russian for “Daring”) is now part of the operations of the 1st Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Brigade “Slavyanskaya”, which belongs to the “Center” force group of the Russian Armed Forces.

According to squad commander Nikolai Sobol, the tracked platforms are equipped with various types of weapons:

“The tracked platforms can be armed with a 12.7 mm Utes heavy machine gun, an RPG-7 launcher with 10 rounds, and also a 14.5 mm machine gun. Their main tasks are to support the passage of assault groups, transport supplies, and evacuate the wounded.”

The new ground-based robotic systems (NRTK) are currently being tested under real combat conditions and, according to frontline soldiers operating them, have proven to be effective and reliable during high-risk missions.

These unmanned technologies represent another step by Russia in the use of artificial intelligence and military automation to reduce soldier exposure and increase the effectiveness of tactical operations.
